What should you consider when sourcing marble vases?

Natural stone can be porous. A decorative vessel should not be assumed watertight. If the design is intended for fresh flowers, include a liner or a separately validated sealing method and agree on leak-testing requirements.

SOURCING NOTES

Before you
begin.

01Can a marble or travertine vase hold water for fresh flowers?+

Do not assume a stone vase is watertight. Confirm whether the design is for dried stems, has a removable liner or has been developed and tested to hold water. Approve the complete assembly, cleaning access and care instructions before describing it as a vase for fresh flowers.

02What should a brief for a tall or large stone vase include?+

Include overall height, body width, opening diameter, internal depth, base dimensions and intended stems. Ask for the weight and construction details, and review stability on a sample. Specify protection around the neck and rim as part of the packing brief.
